Lip Augmentation, Injection and Fillers
Dr. Christopher Zoumalan strives to provide the safest and most efficient procedure for lip injections that will help augment your lips and create a more balanced and youthful appearance to your face. Dr. Zoumalan uses hyaluronic acid lip fillers for lip augmentations. Patients must be prepared for the procedure and plan out what they must do before and after the lip injections are applied in order to allow the best recovery possible.
Preparing for Lip Injection in Beverly Hills, Los Angeles
Dr. Zoumalanand his Beverly Hills staff will describe the procedure and what to expect in terms of swelling and bruising during your consultation. Dr. Zoumalan makes you as comfortable as possible for the procedure, and uses topical anesthetic creams and icing before and during the procedure. The injectable filler has lidocaine in the syringe as well to further help with pain control.
Prior to the lip injection procedure, you should avoid taking:
- Aspirin or aspirin containing products to minimize bruising for several days to a week beforehand.
- Medications that thin your blood that may cause additional bruising
- Smoking to ensure the fastest healing process
Let your doctor know if you have cold sores. Dr. Zoumalan may prescribe an antiviral medication to help prevent the incidence of a cold sore after lip filler injections.
Post Lip Injection with Restylane and Juvederm Management
Nonsurgical filler lip injections have minimal downtime and recovery. You can undergo treatment on the day of your first consultation and may be able to follow your daily routine post procedure. Swelling and bruising do occur and should expected to some degree.
Lip augmentation, injection and fillers recovery process
Most of the swelling improves after several days in most of our patients. Icing the lips on the first day can help improve the swelling and bruising. Dr. Zoumalan does recommend avoiding any physical activity such as working out for up to 24 hours after the procedure. It is normal to see one side of the lip more swollen than the other until all the swelling resolves. Swelling can take up to a full two weeks in some patients. If touch ups are required, Dr. Zoumalan advises to wait at least two weeks to ensure all swelling has resolved.
What should you avoid after your lip injection or lip fillers?
Do not massage your lips for up to two weeks after the procedure is done. This can affect the placement of the product. The ice packs are what are only necessary to assist in the healing process. If you regularly exercise, refrain for a day to ensure that there is no additional swelling to the lips due to strenuous physical activity. Although you may be able to resume regular activities the day off the procedure, plan out the procedure several days before you attend an important gathering or meeting.
