FAQ & Answers
What are blunt-tipped microcannulas and when are they used?
We routinely use blunt-tipped cannulas to perform our hyaluronic acid injections in the office. The most common areas we use the blunt-tipped cannulas include the:
- tear trough deformity also known as orbital rim hollowness
- mid face volume loss (cheek augmentation)
- lip augmentation
- nasolabial folds
A cannula is a tube with an edge that is not sharp and designed for atraumatic intradermal injections of fluids. Advantages of using a blunt-tippped cannula instead of a sharp hypodermic needle include:
- virtually no bruising
- considerably less pain
- minimal downtime
- single point of entry for wider coverage
- production of new collagen
