For non-surgical cosmetic procedures: If I’m not happy with the results, is the procedure reversible?
Most of the fillers Dr. Zoumalan uses in his practice are hyaluronic acid (HA) based fillers. They are composed of hyaluronic acid which is a natural product found in our skin and joints. The product is not permanent and can last anywhere from 6 months or more depending on where it is injected and based on the type of HA filler use. The best thing about such products is that they are reversible in case the patient is not happy with results. The doctor will often see patients for a second opinion where they have visible nodules of filler material present though the skin. This can happen in cases where the filler material is not injected deep enough in the appropriate tissue planes. When this happens with an HA product, we have the option of “removing” the product by injecting an enzyme to break up the filler material. The enzyme is safe and can be performed in the office just like the original filler procedure the patient had.
